Light and Shadow Final Book

Description

Here's the contents of my cute little book. :D Let me know what you think!

This book was the final for my Art of the Book class, where we learned how to make books from scratch, all sorts of interesting book-binding techniques, and nifty paper-decoration methods.

My final book is completely hand-made, all the pages were hand-cut, the hardcover was hand-cut and glued together with cover-material... everything was sewn and glued together by me. :D I have a picture of the book IRL if you're interested in seeing it, but this is just displaying it's sexy contents.

The pages took a few hours to cut all together. This book consists of, I believe, 21 pages cut out (which makes it about 84 pages long in the end). Most of my images are two-page spreads, so I just count two-page spreads as one entire page, when in actuality they're two pages, lol.

The contents of the pages (drawing, inking lines, coloring) was all done in less than one week! B-) I literally started on Tuesday, and finished on Monday. (I counted up my time spent though, it rounds up to somewhere around 30 hours to complete, lol.)

Book dimensions:

4.25in x 5.75in x 1in when closed.
Approx. 9.75in x 5.75in when open to the middle page.

Materials Used:
-- Print paper (for planning, jotting down notes and sketching, etc)
-- .05mm Mechanical Lead Pencil
-- Rives Heavy weight off-white paper
-- Rives BFK
-- Sturdy board
-- Black Lineco Book Cloth
-- Micron Pens, Archival Ink (all sizes)
-- Assorted brushes
-- Crayola Watercolor set
-- Water, lots of it
-- India Ink
-- Coffee
-- Color pencils (briefly)
-- Hair Dryer
-- MP3 Player (I need music to function.)

Each scan was custom-scanned to make sure the color representation was as close to it's real life counterpart as much as possible, no color edits were done in photoshop. The page sequence was put together in Photoshop CS5 and then exported to Flash MX 6. (OLD SCHOOL FLASH!)

(And the GIF preview was made in Flash too, lol.)

So I hope you guys enjoy the story and art! :)

Great story. Very good art. I'm very glad I took the time to read this.
This truly cosmic creation deserves a lot of attention as it is a star of its own to shine through the Nyte of the internet - you did an enormous effort in challenging the big global shadow.
